Doctor, can you tell me why menopause occurs in females?

It is the natural process like others that happens when the ovaries age. When ovaries get old, they do not release eggs leading to the absence of menstruation.

What tests do you conduct to establish that menopause has started?

To check for the menopause, we conduct these tests at our clinic:

1. Thyroid Function Test.
2. Serum FSH/ Serum LH
3. Estrogen Levels

What is the treatment to cure excessive bleeding in menopause?

To control the bleeding during menopause, we prescribe our patients some medicines or hormone therapies. It helps in regulating estrogen and progesterone which further controls bleeding. Sometimes a telescope may be inserted to look inside and take some biopsies.

What should I expect after the Dilation and Curettage (D&C) surgery to stop bleeding during menopause?

After the D&C surgery, you will have to take rest for 1 or 2 days and then return to your daily routine. You can also observe mild vaginal discharge but that will be normal.

Does the D&C surgery to prevent excessive bleeding during menopause involve any risk?

No, the D&C surgery does not always involve any risk. But sometimes, it may cause :

1.1. Puncture of the uterine wall.
2. Infection.
